The Wonderful World of Kamloops Local Businesses

Do you ever wake up and feel the need to be super productive or have a fun day on the town? Well, I know I do and my favorite thing on my days off of school and work is to take a short day to myself on the town and there’s no better way to do that than supporting local new upcoming business. Kamloops has been having lots of new businesses popping up but I can tell you a couple of hidden gems that I just love.

I really do love beginning the day at 8 a.m. on Fortune Drive at the Cutting Board Bistro & Bakery. This is Kamloops first completely gluten-free bistro and bakery now open on the North Shore. The first treats I enjoy are gluten-free and celiac donuts, blueberry mousse, and tarts. I curled up with a good book and my coffee on the bistro patio. This was the perfect place for a solo day and some me time.

Then after my outstanding morning in the bakery, I love taking a small walk down the streets of Kamloops to look at all the cute shops and things to do, but the one that really can catch anyone’s eye is “The Inspired Child.” What could this be? It is one recent business to open up downtown. A very needed store that supplies specialty education and open-ended play materials and programs for children. Nostalgia instantly kicks in as you see all the books you read as a child. Out of the corner of your eye is a display with some much-needed stress tools that you just need to take home with you. This place has so many gems. As you approach the checkout the lovely worker helps you with your purchases and as you leave they say “thank you for supporting local!”

Lastly, who wouldn’t want to end this for a day off with even more fun? When the sun goes down and the night comes up, what I like to do the most is to dress up, wear my cutest clothes, put some make-up on and meet up with my friends. Then we all go to the new club downtown “The Night Shift on Fifth ”. It is located near the corner of Fifth Avenue and Lansdowne Street, over the former CJ’s nightclub. I really love going there and enjoy it as much as I can after a long week of doing assignments and studying for my classes. Going to the club, dancing like crazy, and enjoying the music they play is literally all I need. The Night Shift on Fifth opens Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. So, have that wild weekend experience you’ve always wanted by going to this new amazing nightclub.
